Last week I posted my ‘Strategy Map for 2024’.
There are two key types of flow identified on the map; Penetrate and Envelop. I’ll discuss these at greater length in a future post. But I think the labels already give a pretty good idea of the thinking.
The Penetrating Flow involves creating media (word, images, audio, video, etc) which provoke a response. It’s not rage-farming exactly but it is giving people a poke with a sharp stick and taking no prisoners. I’ll show you a few ideas in another post.
Here in this post though is the sweeter side of what I’m proposing.
Enveloping Flow is ultimately the more powerful of the two. It was Roy Bashkar - David Graeber’s favourite philosopher - who said at the end of his last broadcast before his death in 2014 ‘Love, loves love, into ever widening circles’. These are also the final words spoken in Service at CoB prior to Ritual. And they’re the words which header the Strategy Map. Love has to be the ultimate aim or what’s the point?
So the Enveloping Flow is about creating feelings of love, harmony and community with CoB and our ideas. Most of our social media to date has been of this type. It’s tried to educate and open minds to wider perspectives on money.
For example (& because I saw there is a new film about him) Bob Marley’s “Money is numbers and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end” has been used alongside dozens of other similar aphoristic quotes by the wonderful Wil Hurst in his role as CoB’s social media guru.
So what I’ve been focusing on while consciously creating a bit of ‘Envelop’ media is evoking those positive emotions. But lighter on thinking than we’ve been in the past and heavier on feeling.
Now, there’s a whole big topic about whether the primary messaging should be directed to the individual or the community. Should we say ‘burning money will make you feel good’ or ‘changing money will make the world a better place’. I’ll consider this in more depth another time. But I think marketing gurus would say it should all be about the individual and what they want.
As happenstance would have it one of the videos below digs into that individual/community dichotomy a little bit (see Geoff Winde’s piece).
The videos are all 1080x1080px - so ideal size for Instagram, Facebook & Twitter feeds. Sorry they have the extra space around them here. It’s just the way Substack does its videos.
I will make 1080x1920px versions (full screen phone size). In fact, that’s the format I’ve been using for the Penetrating Flow media. I think Tiktok, FB Stories and Insta Reels will be better suited to the faster, edgier, in-your-face, poke-in-eye type of media.
Anyway - the three videos follow - I hope you enjoy them. PLEASE let me know what you think in the comments. Which one is your favourite? Do you have favourite? Do you hate them all?
