Meant to say! And just in case this resonates with anyone...
My brother was over from Canada last week at a conference and we got a couple of days together. It's always illuminating talking to him. I think I told you last time about the idea of 'announceables'? He has high profile job which requires contact with politicians. And what they want from him he told me was 'announceables' - that's their currency in trade.
This time we talked about the difference between efficiency and effectiveness. Corporations (I'm sure you're aware) focus heavily on efficiency - often to the detriment of effectiveness. I experience this all the time in my day job. We talked about how institutions need to rebalance efficiency and effectiveness. And to understand that not everything which contributes to effectiveness can be measured.
There is a link here to Puritan ideas about Ritual, but I'll leave that for you to determine. Xx
I'd love to know more about the religious charity idea. Is the aim a community of the moneyless, like a monastic order, so based on being physically together? Or is it all going to be online, and through the website eventually?
2015 was the year I did my first burn with someone else directly involved in the ritual. I'll comment on the piece itself but I had some contact with XR money too.
The idea of setting up CoB as a Religious Charity has many strands. Maybe I should do a proper post about it? I published a document in 2021 going into some detail but perhaps now is the time to revisit it and write something more digestible.
In terms of its purpose... that'd actually written into it governing document and be legally binding (even before attempting registration) and essentially that has to be about encouraging and promoting the sacrifice of money as a religious rite. More widely I think instituting a charity dedicated to such a purpose pushes back against the dominance of Capital and financialised/utilitarian logic - something the established Religious Institutions used to a lot more effectively.
So happy to have found a new £burn story. Do you fancy sticking your £90 in the Record of Burn?
I read what you write, but sometimes I’m busy and don’t read your posts for a few weeks or more. But I’m here and I like shorter more frequent posts as that suits my reading habits. But longer posts are just as good to really dive into, but I have to save them until I have plenty of time.
