The arguments you make are extremely persuasive. My gut tells me though that the Record of Burn should not be accessible on desktop, mobile, or abacus, it should be a fuck off great vellum tome which, if things went pear-shaped, could, y'know, go the way of the library of Alexandria.
And to be fair the record of burn did start did start off as great vellum tombs (well, A2 paper). Anwen still has the F23 one I think. Dave W has slightly less impressive decorated A4 ring binders. But you're right. We should do both.
If I type, say, 40 in the initial total field but then add details of, say, two notes, say a 10 and a 20, the total of the notes is entered in the Record of Burn and the different total in the initial field is ignored. Probably the right choice but should an error be flagged?
Denomination has to be chosen from the drop down list. This is fine, it avoids spurious denominations being entered, but I typed 10 in the box and then typed a serial number and discovered that my 10 had disappeared. I had to click on 10 in the drop down list to enter it. Is it possible for the focus to automatically move to a list element and enter it if I've typed it in and then pressed enter or TAB to move to next field. Or am I being too picky?
Looked at this again. It happens when I use the mouse to navigate between boxes. If I navigate via the keyboard, use TAB or Return to move to serial number box, then the number I typed in the denomination box doesn't disappear (as long as it is one from list).
Currencies. I tried to put Australian dollars in but not on drop down list yet. I assume that more currencies will be added to the list so didn't see this as a problem. But it got me wondering how to deal with a burn of an "obscure" currency that we haven't added. Maybe a note telling the user to email the support desk (LOL).
I put the same serial number in for two records and it accepted both entries. Although as the serial number isn't showing in the public view of Record of Burn I can't see if it was recorded twice.
Also, how far back do you want people to be able to go? Should there be a cut off date and anything earlier has to be added by CoB officials? I tried entering 1 Jan 0001, it was changed to 1901 and recorded on RoB
I've had my first little play with the Record of Burn form. I'm putting different issues/ideas as different comments on here to group them with relevant replies. I've stuck 7 TEST records in so far. I started off using names that amused me such as TEST Carney and TEST Reeves but then realised that names that reflected the kind of test would be better. So from now on I will use such names as TEST General, Test Date etc..
This is all good stuff WIl - exactly what I want THANK YOU.
Too knackered to go thru in detail now... or adjust the DB... but I can already see there's a number of things you mention that defo need sorting quick and are actually relatively simply fixes.
Be as picky as you want mate! Lets drill right down into it. XX
I can't find some of the sheets for 2021 (which I feel *terrible* about). 2021 was the Cockpit Burn you came to. In the spreadsheet I'd put in a total burn estimate for that year... doing the database I found one Burn sheet and entered the details on that. I need to have a proper look to see if I can find more. But I can defo put your £10 burn in for 2021 - or you can do it through the Form?
Can you remember writing down your Burn details? One of our glamourous Burn Maidens (I'm sure they'd hate me calling them that!... but they are glamourous!) would have got you to fill it out during the ritual.
I haven't got a working mobile phone at the moment so all my tests are done on my laptop (not touch screen). It would be good if someone else tried tapping their screen a bit.
"How Much In Total? " Lets me enter negative numbers and decimal fractions. I'm assuming the field can be set for Positive Integers.
Also "How Much In Total? " feels a bit unwieldy. I'm not sure what would be better. "Total Burn" maybe? Do all the field names need question marks? (Does it matter?)
I feel that Last Name should be to the left of First Name and then Date of Burn below. If I use the TAB key to navigate between fields it goes left to right before down to next line. So currently I type First Name, press TAB, type the date, press TAB and type Last Name.

Nonetheless, good work Brother Jonathan!
It's been a trip down memory lane for me too!

Thank you.
Heh, that wasn't an invitation to do both. Still, handy that our fascist overlords now have a one-stop shop for rounding up all the money-burners.
At least it'll be an efficient purge.
Amen!
Gosh, but this takes me back:

Does this system have regular automatic back ups? If the RoB was attacked by the entry of 100's of spurious records is it easy to roll back?

The form accepts future dates. So some mistyped dates or mis-clicks on the calendar will be accepted. Could be done intentionally.

Am I the 'Thomas' in the Cockpit in 2020? If so, it was £10
2019 you mean?
No. That's a different Thomas.

Ah! I will add myself. x

Uploads: I uploaded a spreadsheet. It was added to RoB but when I click on it I get "previews for this filetype are not available”.

First thoughts on the form.

Brilliant!
